How to Feel Confident in Your Homeowners Insurance

In a study from Plymouth Rock Insurance that surveyed homeowners across the country, only 30% of homeowners are confident that they know what their homeowner's insurance actually covers.

And that is terrible. That's absolutely terrible.

Not terrible if you don't understand terrible, because that means someone in my position, an insurance agent, an insurance professional, is not doing their job. And that's terrible and frustrating for me.

And it's why I do these blogs because I want you to have information to have the knowledge to make the right insurance decision. That's our mission here.

That's why we say Rogue Risk is insurance done differently because you should have as much information as I have. So working together, we can make the right decision for you.

So if you want to be confident in your insurance, there are a couple of things you need to do.

ask questions

One, ask questions. If you are asking questions of your insurance professional and they seem bothered or frustrated or unwilling to give you the time, go find someone else. Call us at (518)-960-6600. Call us.

I'll spend as much time with you on the phone as you need. Anyone on my team will spend as much time with you on the phone as you need, or text you or email you or whatever.

We do video chats, we do all kinds of stuff. We try to be as flexible as we can be to your needs, and we work with people all over the country.

So my point in telling you this is, ask questions. That's number one.

do your research

Two, do your research, watch other YouTube videos, and read other articles. Ask your friends, ask your family. It's okay.

Now, at a certain point, we can't spend our entire lives researching homeowners insurance.

So I would kind of press you to lean on the first one and get a feel for what that insurance agent is willing to answer, how they answer it, and how transparent and honest and upfront they are with you.

They should explain everything to you that you want to know.

And they should show you things that maybe you didn't know to begin with because 30% of homeowners being confident in what their homeowner's insurance covers defeats the purpose.

That's not a good thing.

And so I caution you to be someone who doesn't know what that covers.

Because if you have a terrible day, a tree hits your house, there's a storm, or someone sues you, do you know if any of those things are actually covered under your homeowner's insurance policy?

If your home burned down to the ground today, and God forbid it does, but if it did, would you get that home back? Do you have enough coverage to get your home back? You need to know these things.

It doesn't mean insurance has to be at the forefront of your mind 24/7. That's my job as your insurance agent.

But you should know, or at least feel confident, that when you made these decisions, you knew what you were doing. And that's the point.

The more knowledge you have about homeowners insurance, the better prepared you are to choose coverage that meets all of your needs.

This is where we come in at Rogue Risk.

If your current insurance professional has never addressed issues like this with you before, I’d encourage you to reach out to us today.
