You’ve been cooped up in an apartment or your parent’s house and you can’t wait to go out and purchase your first home.
Buying your first home is an enormous life decision.
It’s easy to allow the stress and excitement of purchasing a home to cloud your judgment, causing you to make decisions you regret once you’ve moved in.
First-time homebuyers who avoid these mistakes often do so by leaning on the guidance of home purchasing professionals throughout the buying process.
Here are three common mistakes made by every first-time homebuyer (and how you can avoid them)…
1) Not All Real Estate Agents Are Created Equal
Not all real estate agent agents are created equal.
Get a good real estate agent. Ask around. Do not try to do it yourself.
That’s a classic rookie mistake. Especially if you’re the buyer because you’re not paying the agent commission. The agent commission comes out of the seller’s pocket.
So get a good real agent.
Get a real estate agent who’s going to show you around, who’s going point stuff out. Who’s going to help you better understand a home’s make-up, the neighborhood, the school district, other problems that may have been in that neighborhood.
All real estate agents are not created equal. Don’t make that mistake. Find a good one. Ask around. I know a bunch.
Happy to send you in the right direction if you need help.
2) Not All Mortgage Brokers Are Created Equal
All mortgage brokers are not created equal. right.
Some mortgage brokers can help you find great deals using creative ways to get what you need; a good rate, good terms.
While other mortgage brokers are gonna push you through their algorithm. What comes out the other end is what you get. Period.
You want the first one. This is a classic mistake, thinking mortgage brokers are a commodity. They are not.
There are high-value options out there for you. So ask around.
I can give you some recommendations if you need them.
3) Not All Homeowners Insurance Carriers Are Created Equal
Not all homeowners’ insurance carriers are not created equal.
Obviously this is a little self serving, since I’m an insurance agent.
Not all homeowners insurance agents are created equal. There are many coverages that a lot of agents don’t even offer because they’re scared to sell them. They’re scared to talk to you about these coverages.
They just want to give you a low price that you’ll buy so they can move on to the next sale.
This is not what you want.
The last thing in the world that you want is to buy a new home, have something terrible happen and then have to come out of your pocket because you didn’t buy the homeowners’ insurance that would cover that particular risk.
These are three common mistakes I see first-time homebuyers make over and over again.
I don’t want you to make these mistakes.
Rogue Risk would love to be your agent.
